Yesterday morning began like most mornings for us. The routine of us kids never getting up quite on time. Mom ringing the intercom a thousand times until every last one of us is upstairs. We read the Bible and Pearlkeeper got up to fix breakfast. Mom got out our literature book to read and while she was reading, we heard a loud bang at the window. We looked toward the window to see a confused looking cardinal fly shakily away. After eating breakfast, we heard the dogs barking so the boys went to check in out. They found the cardinal sitting on the ground with the dogs barking at it. Smokey bear picked it up and brought it in the house. He put it in a cage we have, and put a blanket in there with it. The poor cardinal looked very scared and he had a stick in his mouth. After about an hour he looked like he was getting over the shock. He was walking around and looking at us with interest. When lunch time came Mom had to go to town with Grandma and Lori. Sarah was dropped off for me to babysit. I brought her over to the bird cage and showed her the cardinal.
She was thrilled and kept saying what sounded like "birdie". The bird ended up just falling over and dying. We couldn't figure out why, maybe shock or he might have broken his neck. After he died Smokey bear wanted to feed him to the cat. I was appalled and refused to let him. I think he ended up getting buried. Well, we had fun the rest of the day. Our friend who we hadn't seen for a few months came over and we played games and entertained Sarah. Here is a cute pitcure of her napping.
